Although red deer aren’t native to Texas, they are common on Texas game ranches. Bucks weigh between 350 and 530 lbs. while females weigh between 260 and 370 lbs. Red deer are to Europe what whitetail are to North America. Many geographic areas have their own subspecies of red deer, like Caspian red deer in the Caucuses and Scottish red deer in the United Kingdoms.
There’s a slight difference in terminology between red deer and other North American deer as well. Male elk and whitetails are normally referred to as “bucks”, while male red deer are called “stags”. The term is more common in British English, and in some cases stag specifically denotes a mature deer over the age of five.
