The axis deer, frequently referred to as the chital deer or spotted deer, is actually native to the Indian subcontinent. It’s a smaller deer species, with males reaching about 35 inches at the shoulder and weighing between 65 to 165 lbs. One of their defining features are surprisingly long antlers that are nearly as tall as they are at almost 40-inches long. Their antlers are also more consistent than many other deer subspecies with three standard tines on bucks.
