Of the 14 subspecies of sika deer, the Dybowski is unique for its size. Bulls range in weight from 240 lbs. to 350 lbs. while does are generally between 180 and 200 lbs. They generally only have a body length of about 61 inches and can stand between 30 inches and 43 inches tall at their withers.
The Dybowski is named after a Polish naturalist who first discovered them, but they’re native to Manchuria, China, Korea and Far East Russia. As of today, the only wild populations are found in eastern Russia, but there are many captive breeding programs for meat and hunting, especially in Europe.
