Other than feral Catalina goats, an import brought to Texas by Spanish missionaries, goat hunting opportunities in the state are sparse except on private game ranches. Native bighorn sheep and mountain goats are more common in other parts of the U.S., like Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming.
Traveling to Africa to hunt exotic goats and leaving your family and work obligations isn’t realistic for many recreational hunters.
You don’t have to drive to another state or fly to another continent when you have a Hunter or Chief membership at Ranger Ridge. Ranger Ridge Estates offers avid hunters a diverse array of exotic wildlife, as well as the unique opportunity to experience thrilling hunts in a picturesque landscape with panoramic views of the Palo Pinto Mountains. We have filled over 1,800 acres of nature preserve with exotic goats and other game so our members can enjoy exciting game opportunities they would only be able to experience on an Indian Subcontinent or African safari.
The Markhor originates from the mountainous regions of Northern and Western Pakistan as well as Afghanistan and India. They’re most known for their unique corkscrew horns and an unparalleled odor, which is pungent even compared to other goats. The Markhor is one of the largest types of goat, reaching up to 73 inches in length. The males also possess long throat, chest, chin and shank hair and have horns that can grow up to 60 inches in length, while females usually never surpass 10 inches.
Markhors are agile climbers and are often found in rugged, rocky terrains. Hone your long-range shooting skills before hunting them, as Markhors can be elusive and difficult to approach.
The Nubian Ibex is native to the arid desert regions of northeastern Africa and parts of the Middle East, particularly Egypt, Sudan, Israel and Saudi Arabia. They’re most recognizable by their light tan fur and the males’ ridged horns that arch over their hunches. Nubian Ibex goats are accustomed to hot climates and often stay near water sources. Hunting groups can increase their chance of an encounter by hunting during cooler parts of the day, near creeks or other water sources.
Spot and stalk, making a shot when you’re at a comfortable distance, has the best chances of success for riflemen. For those hunting with a bow and arrow, blind hunting may be the best method. At Ranger Ridge, we offer our members guided hunting trips to enhance their chance at taking challenging game.
The Bezoar Ibex originally hails from the Caucuses, or more specifically the mountainous regions of Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Iran. You may find some in New Mexico and on private ranches, but they’re primarily found outside of the U.S.
They have a distinctive light brown coat with a white underbelly and dark markings along the back and legs. The Bezoar Ibex is considered one of the most prestigious trophies in the hunting world due to its majestic horns and challenging hunting conditions, as hunters must navigate their steep, rocky habitat to spot them. Ranger Ridge Estates offers the unique opportunity to hunt Bezoar Ibex without leaving Texas.
To hunt, you’ll require high-quality optics, honed stalk and spotting techniques and good physical endurance for climbing. At Ranger Ridge, our hunts are led by experienced professionals who will help you and your family or friends navigate the terrain smoothly and safely.
The Alpine Ibex is native to the European Alps, particularly in Italy, Switzerland, Austria and France. Like their Ibex cousins, they’re most well-known for their large, curved horns that arch backward. The Alpine Ibex is most active in the day, specifically mid-morning and early afternoons. Blind hunting will be hunters’ best tactic to catch this type of goat. They often graze in open areas where cover is limited and are sensitive to even the slightest disturbance, so limiting movement and working silently with your group is crucial.
Whether you are a seasoned hunter or a beginner, our hunting tours cater to all skill levels, providing a safe, thrilling and welcoming environment for you and your family.
