The Stumberg sheep was originally bred in the 20th century to combine the attributes of the argali sheep and the mouflon sheep. The mouflon, a native to the Caspian region (like the Transcaspian urial). The argail, sometimes referred to as simply the mountain sheep, calls the steep mountains of Tibet and the Himalayas home. The Stumberg breed was originated by frozen-food entrepreneur and Texas hunting rancher Louis Stumberg.
