Audad Sheep Hunting Near Dallas, TX

Although the audad – or Barbary sheep – is technically native to the mountainous regions of North Africa, it’s now more frequently found in North America and Southern Europe. Introduced populations in Mexico, Texas and New Mexico have thrived in our climate and terrain.

Size of audad vary greatly, standing anywhere between two and a half feet and three and a half feet at shoulder and weighing in at between 66 and 320 pounds. Their long, backwards and inward curving horns can reach up to 30 inches in length. The wrinkling on the horns tend to correspond with the audad’s age, with smoother horns on younger sheep.
