Alpine Ibex

Alpine Ibex goat Hunting Near Dallas, TX

These brownish-grey goats have a relatively small native range encompassing the Alps. Although their numbers dwindled in the 19th century, they experienced a resurgence after reintroduction to the Switzerland Alps in the early 20th century and can now be found throughout the Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italian Alps.

Like many of their ibex cousins, Alpine ibex males grow long backwards-curving, ridged horns that are between two and a half and three and a half feet long. Female horn lengths are generally between seven to 14 inches. Alpine Ibex are usually between 35 and 40 inches tall at the shoulder, have a body length of roughly 60 to 66 inches and can weigh between 150 and 260 pounds.
