The blackbuck, or the Indian antelope, originally called Nepal and India home. It thrives in both forested areas as well as plain environments. The blackbuck stands at about 30 to 33 inches at the shoulder, with males weighing between 45 and 125 lbs. and females weighing between 45 and 75 lbs. Although it’s generally only the males that grow their distinctive corkscrew V-shaped horns, which can be nearly two-feet long, it’s not unheard of for females to grow horns as well.
The blackbuck adapted well in the Americas, thriving in both the United States and Argentina. It was hunted to near extinction in Bangladesh and Pakistan and is illegal to hunt in India due to its religious significance.
