The Bald Cypress trail is a 1.6-mile out-and-back horseback trail located in Guadalupe River State Park, in Spring Branch, Texas.
If you enjoy marveling at the beauty of the evergreen cypress trees as you ride you horse along the Guadalupe River, the Bald Cypress trail may be the perfect route for you and your horse.
This 4.5-mile loop trail is located near Plano, Texas. The leisurely route takes you through an enchanting forest and tranquil creek.
Are you looking for a mostly flat trail with relaxing views to help you unwind from the hustle and bustle of everyday life? The Willow Springs and Bobcat Run Loop awaits you year-round.
This 3.3-mile loop trail can be found near Krugerville, Texas. The route takes you around a lowland preserve rich in diverse plants and birds.
Due to its low elevation, the trail can be muddy during and after rainfall, so it’s best to visit during dry weather.
This moderately challenging trail is about 5.8 miles long (out and back) and is located in Palo Duro Canyon State Park near Canyon, Texas.
The trail offers breathtaking views of the majestic red rocks and cliffs the state park is home to, which are frequently compared to Arizona’s Grand Canyon. As the name implies, the route leads to the Lighthouse Rock—a beautiful rock formation resembling a lighthouse.
This 6.8-mile loop trail is located near Harker Heights, Texas. The trail is frequented by various types of visitors, including horseback riders, hikers and mountain bikers. Although the loop is mostly flat, there are some moderately challenging sections that will keep you and your horse relaxed but also somewhat challenged.
You can find this scenic four-mile trail near Flower Mound in Texas. Completing the loop requires crossing a creek, which isn’t always feasible due to fluctuating water levels. If you’re accessing the trail during warm summer months, make sure to bring insect repellant, as the standing water in the creek is a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
If you don’t mind a physical challenge and elevation gain, the Mundy’s Gap Overlook may be the perfect horseback riding adventure for you.
This 3.9-mile out-and-back trail is in Franklin Mountain State Park near El Paso and offers stunning views of the Franklin Mountains and the city. Some parts of the trail are steep and rocky, so make sure to prepare yourself mentally and physically for the challenge.
If you’re interested in an all-day adventure, this 14.5-mile out-and-back trail may be a great destination. Located in Guadalupe Mountains National Park near Salt Flat, Texas, the trail features a challenging ascent to the top of the ridge. Once you get to the top, you’ll be rewarded with beautiful views of the arid desert below.
The trail is interesting from a geological standpoint, as it features several fossil zones unique to the Guadalupian age.
